Mudeford Wood Community Centre

One of my priorities as leader of the Council has been to get the issue of letting the community run the Mudeford Wood community centre sorted either way following what I saw as two years of talking and not much action. Last night the Community Services committee debated on a proposal presented by a senior officer of CBC and concluded by agreeing to accept the recommendations therefore passing the matter to the next resources committee who will study the finances. Whilst some discussion centred on the financial aspect of the proposal, it seemed to me that members were more interested in the concept of the community running the enterprise and making it a success thus saving the Council costs over a ten year period both in terms of real monetary figures and also opportunity savings resulting in the community managing the facility not CBC.It also ticks all the boxes of the 'invest to save' agenda which I support and whilst the initial investment appears onerous it will still, according to our advisers produce long term gains. It further supports my concept of developing community pride and spirit and follows my mantra of 'its working for the community that gets the community working'.
