August over and done with!
Conventionally August is my holiday month, lazing on sunny beaches with a jug of sangria or even a staycation with daily barbeque's and fishing expeditions. Not this year though, for some reason I lost the travel lust and the weather has been so horrible as to rule out al fresco dining. And in any case there has been a lot to do in making sure we at CBC are ready for the next very important six months as well as dealing with day to day events listed in this blog. Working smarter is the theme (getting more for less) with emphasis on cutting duplication in decision making and making sure our corporate direction is evidence based and achievable. To this end our lead members and port folio holders will be working with officers on the new corporate plan, trying to make sense and take advantage of central government policy changes like the localism bill. All in all a very exciting time ahead with special emphasis on crucial issues like waste collection, balancing the budget and making sure all front line services are maintained at the high standards we have been used to. Along the way the work being done on Druitts, Saxon Square and that end of the High Street should start to develop and exciting news regarding environmental areas like Chewton Bunny and Stanpit Rec. Maybe County will get their act together on the library!!!
