Stanpit Marsh SSSI

Throughout this year erosion of the pathway around the marsh has caused great concern, at times at flood tide the pathway has been breached and this has stopped walkers unless dressed in high boots or waders from completing the circuit. This is in fact a complex issue as why this happens and as to what occurs to the rest of the immediate coastline if the infill is not handled properly. CBC have to defer to English Nature in respect of action to be taken and of course the Stanpit Marsh Advisory panel in respect of the long term influences of this erosion and the effects resulting from the engineering solutions likely to be agreed. In this case we have called on our excellent coastline management team who are working as I write to come up with a soft engineering solution which will be monitored over the next year. Clearly we are experiencing some sort of environmental change which is causing this problem notwithstanding that this whole area has undergone changes throughout history. We just have to find a way of living with it
