The Pact meeting last night

Over 70 residents packed the Methodist Hall in Mudeford Lane last night to hear the latest reports from the PACT panel under the new Chairmanship of Magistrate John Churchill. The Police report was very encouraging with action being taken on all fronts to keep Purewell and Stanpit crime to an absolute minimum. A detailed discussion followed about making the Purewell roundabout safer and a better experience for all users with the emphasis on pedestrian priority. Highways engineer from Dorset County Council attended and he was taking notes at a rapid rate. Resources will be the problem if we want to get anything done but a whole stream of ideas came from the floor covering a wide range including speeding traffic, the problems of parking and unloading lorries at the shops and a complete redesign of the junction to form a traffic light controlled crossroad with the total removal of the roudabout. Normandy Drive featured as one of the target roads for Police control cameras and the possible use of flashing speed signs to get speeds down. 'Twenty is plenty' concept for local roads was also tabled with particular interest in the governments statements about winning back our streets. In short an excellent meeting full of positive contribution from a well informed and contributing community.
