Another 'first' for Christchurch and Dorset in communication

This is the press release which announces the fist electronic public meeting about crime and disorder. I am very proud of my team who have strived to get this idea off the ground, it really does show initiative which has been evident in the success of the Community Safety Partnership for the last three years. But read on......

If you want a question answered about crime and community safety in Dorset then join us at the Dorset Community Safety Partnership’s virtual meeting on the 8 December 2010.

Anyone with any questions, concerns or general points they want to raise about crime and community safety in Dorset County can do so from the comfort of their own home by taking part in a pioneering online virtual meeting.

The meeting will be held on www.dorsetforyou.com between 4pm and 6pm on 8 December 2010. During these times residents will be able to visit www.dorsetforyou.com/communitysafety and ask questions live on the blog.

The Dorset Community Safety Partnership Chair Cllr Ray Nottage will be available to answer questions, as well as representatives from partner agencies like Dorset Police, Dorset County Council, Dorset Fire & Rescue Service, the NHS, Dorset Probation Trust and Dorset Drug and Alcohol Team.

Areas that the team would like to discuss and hear from residents about in particular are anti-social behaviour, violent crime and community cohesion.

Councillor Ray Nottage, Chair of Dorset Community Safety Partnership said: “We really want to engage with as many people as possible and a blog offers an additional way to target community members that may not be reached through a conventional meeting.

“Residents of Dorset will have the opportunity to interact with those panellists present and raise issues which are affecting them in their community. People can suggest ideas of how to tackle crimes or just ask a question. The Dorset Community Safety Partnership strives to make Dorset County a safer place in which to live and work and we are hoping to receive some useful feedback and comments during the blog that will help us to achieve this.”

While Dorset residents can simply log-on to the meeting to ask questions live they can also email questions and suggestions in advance to N.Whitley@dorsetcc.gov.uk or by post to Nikki Whitley, Community Safety Team, Colliton Annex, County Hall, Colliton Park, Dorchester, DT1 1XJ. However, questions will not be answered until the event

For those that would prefer to come to the meeting and speak to the panellists face to face, the public meeting will be held at the Dorford Centre, Dorchester 4 – 6pm.

The meeting is open to anyone from the Dorset County area – Christchurch, East Dorset, North Dorset, Purbeck, West Dorset and Weymouth & Portland.

Although not all questions may be answered during the meeting, all individuals who ask a question will receive an answer within seven days of the event.
Could this be the start of electronic public events?
