Saturday morning surgery

A very quiet morning which was good because it gave me a chance to catch up with Sparky, Lucy and Barry and cover some of the on going issues which we will face in the new year. Foremost is the issue of parking in Purewell which will come to Community Services in January. As I will be unable to attend that meeting Lucy will speak for both of us in opposition to the proposal. Also the new 'Rosie Haver's' crossing at Purewell is scheduled for early in the new year and of course the delayed work on the traffic calming system in Stanpit. So quite a lot going on in our attempt to make Purewell and Stanpit a safer and more comfortable place for residents. One of our priorities is to revisit the Mudeford Lane speeding problem which is putting our children in danger just by the school. I personally am very uncomfortable about the recorded increase in traffic speeds as a result of removing the speed bumps and am anxious that we address this matter quickly. What does concern me are the reports of the rather cavalier way parents are dropping off their children from vehicles in the morning to attend school and I have asked Sparky to monitor the situation so that we can find a safer alternative to making the kids scamper across the road. Thanks to one of our residents who is so concerned he popped into surgery with suggestions as to what we can do. The last matter which has again been brought to my attention is the increase in dog fouling just about everywhere, this seems to be a pattern brought about by dark mornings and evenings and Sparky is becoming very animated that despite all our good work in the summer in explaining how unpleasant this habit is the problem has come back with a vengeance. I understand that currently I am not very popular with some dog owners and letters are being sent to The Echo explaining how responsible they are, evidence of dog excreta on footpaths, open spaces and the like and the constant complaints that I am getting, hardly supports that claim.
