Stanpit traffic survey

Those of you who have expressed real concern regarding the speed and volume of traffic on this road will have noticed that a comprehensive speed/traffic survey is being undertaken. This is partly due to the 380 petitioners who signed the 'Twenty is Plenty' petition and as a result of numerous complaints from residents over the last few months. Transport potfolio holder Cllr.Nick Geary is overseeing the project and has already made some suggestions regarding the location of sensors at Purewell Cross , where the Rosie Havers crossing is going, so that we can get a grip on the speed of traffic coming on to Stanpit from the rounabout and Somerford Road. At the end of the survey we shall have an idea of how the current traffic calming scheme is working by comparing the findings with those taken in Autumn 2007. We will also have information in respect of average speeds at various times of the day and vital information on volume of traffic on the road. All credit to CBC for reacting as they have to try and deal with this very difficult problem of speeding, perception of speed and anti-social driving. Watch this space.

It would be nice to know that the petition will not be forgotten once the traffic analysis is complete
